FLARE – Northumbria University

The interdisciplinary research platform FLARE, (Forum of Living Art, Research and Education) was crested at Northumbria University (UK) by the PhD candidates; Harriet Plewis, Denys Blacker and Helen Collard. In this platform, they were able to share their research practice with invited artists and academics from Fine Art, Gender Studies, Media Studies, Dance and Theatre. This process was open to members of the public and fellow students. By adopting an embodied approach to research, FLARE aimed to broaden the interactive possibilities between practice and theory by creating spaces where cross-pollination could occur between participants, a generative space where participants might move and be moved as well as sensing and making sense.
