Panos Mitsopoulos graduated at the Rietveld Academy of Fine Arts in 2004 in Amsterdam, where he has been living and working for the last 22 years. Themes of his work are ‘Passage’, ‘Borders’ and ‘Cozy Cage’ in which he compares the life of a canary in a cage to the life of man in the contemporary metropolis. Using canary yellow in different ways, he has designed cages, some comfortable, some suspended in the air and some with a vain attempt of breaking out. The work of Panos Mitsopoulos expresses resistance and instability, reflecting the feeling of caged freedom inherent in every phase of transition and change. He has presented his work in several solo and group exhibitions.  In 2007 he started the project “Crossing the Mediterranean” during which he presents work at major Mediterranean ports. At each harbor he creates a new artistic installation and organizes workshops with locals.
