Mario Montoya (Cádiz 1989) is a senior photographic technician in Artistic Photography and Design from the School of Fine Arts in Seville, and holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Faculty of San Carlos at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (where he specialised in the body/object relationship). He has presented his work internationally in Spain, Japan, Mexico, Iran, Germany, Greece, Ukraine, India and Brazil. He has participated in festivals and meetings such as; Nippon International Performance Art Festival Asia, ARCO Madrid, Interval, Cuerpo a Cuerpo, AcciónMAD or Contenedores, among many others. He has been associate lecturer and tutor on the Master of performance at the University of Helsinki and at the performance school of the city of Lviv, Ukraine. M.Montoya has been co-director for more than 5 years of the Action Art and Performance Practices International Training Programme at the El Musical Theatre in Valencia. He is co- founder, together with Lorena Izquierdo, of the artistic platform Dialeg Obert as well as organizer of performance and experimental music festivals such as Dissidents, ESCUCHA!valencia or Sobre la Resistencia, among others. He is also coordinator of the European congress Faire Corps; Pedagogies of the Body, as well as director of the first European congress of organisations and platforms for the study of Performance Art. He is currently developing the first Master’s degree dedicated to the study and practice of performance in Spain. In his work he investigates concepts such as the transformation between the body and artistic material, non-intentionality, poetic experience, emptiness or the presence of absence. He has made more than 70 exhibitions in this field and develops his practice from ephemeral characteristics.
