Les Salonnières is the name of the collective of artists who worked together from 2007 until 2016. Formed by Ester g. Mecías, Cèlia Prats Toran and Meritxell Romanos Bayés, they classified themselves as undisciplinary artists; who like to experiment with different formats and languages between Visual Arts, Movement, Artfomance, Music and Artivism. They moved between performative practices, post-feminist approaches and expanded pedagogy using the body, play, subversion, hooliganism and audience participation in their actions. They believed that the critical empowerment of social reality is not at odds with our ability to apprehend it playfully.
‘For us, life is a game. We elevate play to a greater collective activity, and we use it as a mechanism for the recreation of the social, appropriating this 21st century, which is the century of performativity, as a central device for the creation of meaning. Our secret is to enjoy what we do. Our art is activated by the people who accompany our actions.’
